CHURCH LIFE

Mission and Outreach

Mission and outreach are key components of the life and worship of St. Marys, so much so that we don't have a separate Ministry Team for Mission and Outreach, but rather every body of the church is to be involved in Mission in Outreach. We encourage one another to grow in relationship with God and in service to others. We help others locally, nationally and internationally. This is strengthened by our "Community Connections Ministry Team".

Locally

We help out with a Community Dinner each May. We host community organizations such as The St. Marys Community Players Theatre with audition and rehearsal space. We host a Sparks & Brownies Troup.

A Legacy Team donation towards the support of a Community Support Worker.

Through our Legacy Ministry Team, we award a scholarship at DCVI (our local secondary school), we provide scholarships to those attending Camp Kintail as well as an annual Music Scholarship in memory of Brian Emery – a long time Director of Music here.

A Legacy Team donation to the work of the “Friends of the Library”.

In addition, we support the St. Marys Foodbank (during this past year with “Birthday in a Bag” offerings which provide a cake mix, icing, candles & gift wrap and bag, the Mobility Bus, and Friends of the Library (supporting the ‘Welcome to St. Marys’ bags they offer to newcomers) and we work closely with Community Living offering support to 4 adults on Ontario Disability.

As a member of the Tricounty Foodgrains Bank we tend to a small growing plot with a variety of vegetables with the proceeds of all sales going to the Canada Foodgrains Bank.

As well, we have a rental cottage accommodation held for clients such as these. We are also a member of the Tricounty Foodgrains Bank, tending a small growing plot with a variety of vegetables with the proceeds of all sales going to the Canada Foodgrains Bank.

Globally

Our congregation assists Change Her World (education, birthing kits, underwear, and health for females in Malawi), Hope for Haiti (various building trips in needy places including water wells in Malawi through CHW), Presbyterians Sharing and PWSD (Presbyterian outreach programs).

Our minister participates in the local Ministerial Association and as such offers chapel services at both of our local nursing homes. Each June we deliver Meals on Wheels and every Dec. we assist with the Salvation Army Kettle Drive. We also take part in the Lenten noon hour services and Community Advent service each year. And, we collect eyeglasses, pop tabs and used stamps (1/4″ border left around them).

Presbyterian World Service and Development (PWS&D)

St. Marys has been a faithful contributor to the work of PWS&D. For over 70 years, PWS&D has been working with partners overseas and Canadians here at home to make positive changes in our global village. PWS&D has a wide variety of programs that work to help communities overcome poverty, recover from emergency situations and provide new futures of hope for vulnerable people.

Katherine Chiphwanya, one of the 840,000 Malawians affected by the devastating effects of Cyclone Idai

Most recently, St. Marys contributions helped mothers like Katherine Chiphwanya, pictured, one of the 840,000 Malawians affected by the devastating effects of Cyclone Idai. The cyclone Cyclone Idai unleashed torrential rain and winds that led to devastating flooding across Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Along with 10,000 others living in hard-hit regions of Malawi, Katherine received packages of flour, beans and cooking oil through a PWS&D-supported project with Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
